I'm Irish At Heart - A Golden Shamrock T Shirt
The shamrock is one of the ancient symbols of Ireland. It was considered to have mystical powers long before the arrival of St Patrick; its three leaves forming a triad of significance to the Irish Druids, one for hope, the second for faith, the third for love. And finding one with four leaves brings luck.
In addition to its use as a pasture crop worldwide it's also noted for its medicinal properties, having been used by native American Indians to treat fevers and kidney diseases. Thoroughly cooked and served in soups and salads the shamrock is supposedly digestible. Clover flour was used for making bread during the Irish Famine.
The shamrock shown here, worn by Kari on a dark T Shirt, is a modern interpretation of the traditional shamrock and many shamrocks will be featured on this blog as time goes by.
